Jamaica Aviation Inspectors Association v. The Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority

Summary

The Authority reduced the benefits for a particular department of their organisation. The Association represented the workers in the department as the reduction was deemed unfair.

The Authority contended that they exercised their right to reduce these benefits per their contract with the workers and the guidelines provided by the Ministry of Finance and Public Planning.

The Association contended that this unfair and that the Authority had no basis to make such a reduction, especially one that drastic, and that this amounted to a breach of contract.

The IDT agreed that the reduction of benefits was not unfair given the provisions of the contract between the Workers and the Authority, but that benefits being rescinded from certain Workers is unfair.
